2014 DRAFT Sustainable Master Plan

NFIA Sustainable Airport Master Plan Update

Final TAC & Public meeting scheduled April 14th, 2015 (details below)

The NFTA has initiated development of a Master Plan Update in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR). Planning Consultant McFarland Johnson has been selected for development of this program and it will be accomplished in accordance with all of the guidelines and requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular 150/5070-6B, Airport Master Plans.

Airport Master Plan Goals

The NFIA will play an essential role in the development of business and tourism in the Niagara region. The last Master Plan was completed in May 1994, with an ALP update in 2001, therefore the immediate need for a Master Plan Update (MPU) exists.

The primary goal for this project is development of air/landside infrastructure and facilities to meet the increased operational demands. In addition to identifying these strategies, this project requires initiation of a Geographic Information System (GIS), establishing a projected 20 year noise contours and updating the Pavement Management Plan. A key element in the Niagara Falls Airport Master Plan is the incorporation of sustainability into the planning process. The goal for this process is to have airport development strike a balance between social, economic and environmental needs for the surrounding community. Tenants and users may be asked to provide data and insight on items such as energy use, greenhouse gases, air quality and waste management throughout the course of the project.
